Divorce and Family Law

Lincoln Lawyer for Divorce and Family Issues

If you are visiting a lawyer about your divorce or other family law issue, it is probably because there is at least one issue that you are having trouble settling within your family.

It is always good to facilitate an amicable settlement to divorce and family issues, but sometimes, the best way to do that is to hire an attorney who is prepared to go to court if necessary. At Beckmann Law Offices we have a history of standing up for people's rights.

Contact us to schedule a free initial consultation about how we can help you through divorce, spousal support (alimony), a paternity action or any other family law issue, including the following:

Child custody and visitation: The legal standard in Nebraska for child custody and visitation decisions is the best interests of the child. The judge will not approve any arrangement that he or she determines is not in the child's best interest, even if the parents agree on it.

We will represent clients seeking legal custody — the right to make decisions about important issues like education and health care — as well as physical custody. We will also represent clients seeking modification of an existing custody arrangement.

  • Child support: In Nebraska, child support is determined based on the income of both parents and the number of children. We can help you assemble evidence of both parties' incomes and seek modification of an existing child support order.
  • Property division: Nebraska's standard for the division of property in divorce is called equitable distribution. This does not necessarily mean a fifty-fifty division; it means marital property is divided in the interest of overall fairness. The issue of who was at fault in bringing about the divorce is not supposed to play a role in the property division determination, but if you are not at fault, it can certainly help.

Supporting Parents in Juvenile Proceedings

The juvenile justice system has its own unique characteristics, procedures and rules. If your child has been taken into the juvenile system for delinquency, improper care or other custodial issues, you will want a lawyer who understands that system.

While the court will generally appoint someone to represent the child, the parents are also entitled to a representative. Contact us to learn more about the juvenile justice system.
